Where we have haunted…

Back in 2011, a group of home haunters banded together as Creatures of the Night (Creatures) and created a new, original urban legend surrounding the origin of “Mary” at Mary S. Young Park in West Linn, Oregon. Creatures has now grown into a large collection of actors and crew comprised of neighbors, families, students, co-workers, and friends, all dedicated to making the most amazing Fall event in the Greater Portland area. Creatures of the Night has been pushing the envelope with new technologies and storytelling concepts for haunted attractions. Members of the team speak at conventions around the country, teaching the unique methods we use to tell a community reflective, haunted experience story.

West Linn Haunted Trail (2011-2017)

Creatures began working in partnership with West Linn Parks & Recreation on their annual Haunted Trail at the Mary S. Young Park in 2011 through 2017 when the City closed the trail. Creatures created – and continued to build upon – the deep-themed storyline of Mary which became a local legend, and continues to be one even after the close of the Haunted Trail. Creatures ran the Haunted Trail from inception to close, providing story creation, character development, trail design and layout, scene design, scene construction and build, grant procurement, volunteer coordination, marketing, ticket sales, graphic design, tech innovation, corporate partnerships, community liaison, and attraction management. Creatures’ production grew in scope and size each year, increasing the 2017 attendance of the Haunted Trail to three times the 2011 attendance. We reached capacity for the number of attendees that the current location could entertain. Creatures streamlined costs of production and advertising, increased revenue from $8,000 in 2011 to $33,000 in 2017.

Sandy Library Haunt (2019)

Creatures partnered with the Sandy Public Library in Sandy, Oregon in 2019. Creatures created a deep-themed storyline centered on the local legends of Sandy. Creatures partnered with the Library to develop a new venue for the Library’s yearly haunt house. We coordinated with the Library from inception of their story through completion of the Haunt, providing story creation, character development, building design and layout, scene design, scene construction and build, grant procurement, volunteer coordination, marketing, ticket sales, graphic design, tech innovation, corporate partnerships, community liaison, and attraction management.

Too Reel: A haunted Drive-in (2020)

Creatures created a first-of-its-kind experience while partnering with Lakewood Center for the Arts to presents the very first EVER Haunted Cinema Theatrical Experience in September 2020 during the midst of Covid-19! Even a pandemic would not deter Creatures from providing our haunt fans a truly unique experience. From the safety of their cars, guests were able to experience the horror of the original 1968 film, NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, in an immersive, haunted drive-in. As they watched the bone-chilling film, Portland's own Creatures slunk out from the shadows and terrified the unsuspecting drive-in movie goers (in social distanced spacing and, of course, wearing the latest in zombie approved masks).

Clackamas County Scare Fair Drive-thru (2020)

Clackamas County Scare Fair/Haunted House – Harbinger of Souls (2021)

The Willamette River Valley has a long and dark history that few speak about.  Old fisherman report sightings along the rivers: Eldritch robed figures skulking and gibbering.  Strange miasmic fogs. Something large with an elongated neck, striking like lightning near drownings.  Now nets and fishing lines are breaking or pulling up things so revulsive, the finders only gawk and flee babbling.  The mystery deepens but hope flickers in sightings of a girl in a long white dress with a single softly glowing candle who guides the lost to safety. The Clackamas Scare Fair Haunted House with Creatures of the Night offers the only customizable haunt in Oregon.  Each group of guests can change their experience from terrifying to family friendly using the Creature Candle.
